Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Rebate Program work?

As a Nevada Power customer, you are eligible to receive a rebate for installing a high efficiency air conditioning unit. The final amount will depend on the type of installation, the efficiency and size of any new unit installed. Incentives range from $300 to $900 depending on the final system upgrade selected.

In addition, you could save between 5-55%, depending on the efficiency of the new units installed and changes in your consumption patterns. Customers who combine strategies, such as a high-efficiency air conditioner and a programmable thermostat or resetting pool pump times, could achieve even higher savings.

NOTE: Nevada Power guarantees customers participating in the Time of Use rate or TOU rate plus Incentive programs will not spend more for electricity in the first year billed at the TOU rate than they did in the previous twelve months when billed on the standard rate. If your cost for electricity, including any customer incentives - for the first twelve months billed at the TOU rate - is greater than the same period you were a standard rate customer, Nevada Power will rebate the difference.

How do I get that money?

Your contractor will have the necessary forms and can submit them to Nevada Power on your behalf once the work has been performed. You can call Nevada Power's Customer Service Center at 1.877.811.8700 for more assistance.

Can I install the air conditioner myself?

No. You must be a licensed C-21 HVAC contractor to install an air conditioning unit with the accompanying electrical and code specifications. In addition to these requirements, you must hold an EPA certification to handle the necessary refrigerant needed to charge the system.

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC's) used as air conditioning and heat pump refrigerant have been linked to the destruction of the Earth's ozone layer. A licensed contractor does not release the refrigerant into the atmosphere and is trained and certified in the proper techniques for recovering, recycling, reclaiming and disposing of used refrigerant.
