Summers in Southern Nevada are hot — sometimes dangerously hot. For families without working air conditioning, the heat can make daily life very hard. That’s why SNARSCA (Southern Nevada Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Contractors Association) and local partners created the “Gifting a Cool Day” giveaway.
Each year, the program gives new HVAC units and free installation to local families who need help. This year, four families were chosen. One of them is Janean, our second winner of 2025. Her story shows how much a cool home can truly change someone’s life.
Life in the Heat
Janean had been living with a broken AC system for more than a year. In Southern Nevada, where summer temperatures often rise above 100°F, this made her home almost impossible to live in.
On top of this, Janean also lives with nerve damage, which makes movement and daily tasks more difficult. The heat made her condition worse, leaving her tired, uncomfortable, and struggling to cope.
Like many families, Janean wanted relief but couldn’t afford the high cost of replacing her system. When she entered the “Gifting a Cool Day” giveaway, she hoped for a chance — but never thought she would actually win.
