Summers in Southern Nevada are long, hot, and tough. For families without working air conditioning, it can feel almost impossible to get through the season. That’s why SNARSCA (Southern Nevada Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Contractors Association), along with community partners, launched the “Gifting a Cool Day” giveaway.
Now in its third year, this program provides four families each summer with a brand-new HVAC unit and free installation. Thousands of families entered this year’s contest, and we are excited to introduce our third winner: Shannon.
Life Without Cooling
For Shannon and her family, being without air conditioning has been extremely difficult. Their system broke down at the start of April, leaving their home hot and uncomfortable just as the summer heat began to build.
Shannon is a mom of four children and also cares for four animals. With so many loved ones under one roof, the lack of cooling made daily life a struggle. Simple things like sleeping through the night or finding relief during the day were hard to manage in the rising desert temperatures.
“It’s been hard,” Shannon admitted. “I have four animals and four children, and it’s tough without air.”

“My mom is the one. She’s my angel,” Shannon shared with tears in her eyes. “I actually had a doubt. I knew I was a finalist, and when we pulled up, there were a lot of people. I was praying.”
