SNARSCA’s “Gifting a Cool Day” Giveaway: Meet Our Fourth Winner, Alfredo

For the third year in a row, 8 News Now, SNARSCA (the Southern Nevada Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Contractors Association), and PowerShift by NV Energy joined forces to bring relief to local families through the Gifting a Cool Day giveaway. With support from trusted HVAC sponsors like Nevada Cooler Pad, Copeland, and Paramount Services, four deserving families across Southern Nevada received brand-new HVAC units with free installation.

This year, Alfredo was named the fourth and final winner—and his story is one of perseverance, family, and long-awaited comfort.

Living Without AC for Five Years

For Alfredo, the summer heat was more than just uncomfortable—it was life-changing. For the past five years, he and his family had no central air conditioning. Instead, they relied on small window units and a portable cooler, but these could only do so much when outdoor temperatures soared.

“The house was like an oven,” Alfredo explained. “We could only stay in one room. It was too hot to even spend time in the living room together.”

The lack of cooling didn’t just bring discomfort—it took away valuable family time. Alfredo’s granddaughter and father live with him, and during the summer, they often had to retreat to separate spaces just to stay cool.

Struggling With Repairs and Costs

Like many families, Alfredo tried his best to keep up with AC repairs, but the expenses were overwhelming.

“The system worked for a while after I fixed it, but then another bill would come up,” he shared. “It was agonizing. I couldn’t keep up.”

When he heard about the Gifting a Cool Day giveaway, Alfredo decided to enter. To his surprise, his daughter was confident they would win. “She kept saying, ‘We’re going to win this.’ She believed in it.”

From Doubt to Joy

When Alfredo found out he was a finalist, he was overjoyed—but not everyone believed him at first. He even had to convince his boss to give him the day off to attend. “I showed him the text, and he thought it didn’t look real,” Alfredo laughed. “But it was.”

That moment turned into one of the biggest surprises of his life. At the reveal, Alfredo was officially named one of this year’s winners. The news was a huge relief—a weight lifted from his shoulders after years of struggling in the heat.

A Fresh Start With a Cool Home

Thanks to Paramount Services, who donated and installed his brand-new HVAC system, Alfredo and his family will finally enjoy a cool, safe, and comfortable home.

“This means we can finally spend time together in the living room, not just hiding in one small space,” Alfredo said. “For the next year, I know the AC will be there. This is such a huge relief.”

His joy was shared with his family, who celebrated the blessing of finally being able to live comfortably under one roof again.

Gratitude for the Community

Alfredo expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this possible:

  • SNARSCA – bringing local contractors together to support the community
  • 8 News Now – helping share these inspiring stories
  • PowerShift by NV Energy – providing energy-saving support for local families
  • Nevada Cooler Pad, Copeland, and Paramount Services – donating and installing the system

“This is such a blessing,” Alfredo shared with emotion. “Thank you for giving us this chance.”

A Community Coming Together

Alfredo’s story is a reminder of how powerful it is when local organizations and businesses come together to give back. The Gifting a Cool Day giveaway has already changed the lives of many families across Southern Nevada, and this year’s winners—like Alfredo—will enjoy cool comfort and peace of mind for years to come.
